Message: Lake Allegan members, Michigan Public Act 288 of 2016 went into effect on Jan. 1 2019. All State Forest roads in Michigan had to be identified as such (be mapped) and new laws and rules would be developed to apply to them. No road could exist as both a county or private road and also be a SOM state forest road. On the North shore of our Lake Allegan, the road going down to the DNR boat launch (below the Calkin Dam) was/is classified as a state forest road with new laws and rules attached. A sign stating a vehicle passport sticker was also a requirement. This road is actually Allegan County 120th road, and Valley Township Supervisor petitioned for a change to the correct road identification. Aric Nesbitt became involved. The Allegan County Road Commission and the SOM DNR have contacted (Nov. 2019) the State Forest Road inventory program to make them aware of this new information that this in fact is Allegan County 120th easement . Updating is EXPECTED to be changed in April 2020. Ron Remington worked on this program for almost 2 ½ years. A big problem now that may exist is that this 120th Allegan County road easement is exactly in the position where a new fish ladder system was planned to be built when required.
