Looking for any current stats on the Carp Project? What can we expect going forward in 2022?
Below i from Jenna from Carp Solituons a few weeks ago Hi, I am so sorry it has taken a while for me to get back to you with an update! It has been quite a busy summer. I have been hearing reports from fishermen on the lake and coworkers that the small mouths have been moving to new spots. We also have been seeing more perch this year. I even caught a baby longnose gar at the launch, which is a great sign. We sure are making a dent in the carp population. As of yesterday we have removed over 54k this season (over 130,000 in total)! Our catches have been slowing down over the last month or so, but that is likely due to the population lowering. Our population estimates for the lake have been a little confusing over the last few years and we are still trying to nail down an exact number. We are dealing with a complicated population because there are fish that can freely move upstream into the river portion that we are not netting currently. Hopefully I can get you more exact numbers at the end of the season as we sort through the data that we have collected throughout the summer. The current plan is for 1 more year of carp management on Lake Allegan, however, that is all dependent on population after this season and what management strategies we will use moving forward. Thank you, Jenna Barlow, Carp Solutions Tim Miller commented a year ago On Thursday evening, representatives from Georgia Pacific will be available via Zoom and phone to talk about the carp removal project on Lake Allegan.
